Five Books I Loved Recently | Book Edit
Hey there you,
I'll admit I have never been much of a reader. When I was younger I hated having to do reading assignments for school and I never really got the enjoyment of reading like everyone else did.
Oh but girl, how times have changed. In the past year I was slowing beginning to get into reading and then when lockdown happened, I found books a great way to relax and calm myself.
And honey now, there is nothing I am loving more than pouring myself a glass of wine, putting some soft jazz music on and spending an diving into a book.
Take a look below at the 5 books I have loved recently.
1. Nine Perfect Strangers: Liane Moriarty
"Nine Perfect Strangers" brings together 9 Australians from different walks of life who all attend a pricey health retreat run by a mysterious Russian woman. If you loved Big Little Lies then you will enjoy this.
2. Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race: Reni Eddo-Lodge
Exploring the links between gender, class and race in Britain and other countries this book is an absolute must read now more than ever. Although focusing on events in Britain, the books is still very accessible to readers of black American history.
3. The Vanishing Half: Brit Bennett
Continuing on the topic of race, "The Vanishing Half" is an incredible novel with an important message about racism. A story of American twin girls who run away aged 16, who go on to lead totally different lives, with one passing as white and carving out a new life, and the other who returns to her hometown with her black daughter.
4. Lockdown: Peter May
Imagine writing a book only to be rejected for it being too unrealistic, for it then to happen in real life. Well almost. "Lockdown" is a story of a detective who is ordered to investigate the discovery of human bones in London, which is in the grips of a deadly influenza pandemic that has the city under military lockdown. A great read especially if you enjoyed the film "Contagion."
5. Becoming: Michelle Obama
Honestly, it's been a while since I read "Becoming" but I had to include it on this list because it was the book that got me enjoying reading, and I LOVED it. The book covers her childhood growing up in the Southside of Chicago, how she found her voice, her relationship with Barack and her time in the White House and her role as a mother. Y'all need read this book bbes, and then go watch the "Becoming" documentary on Netflix. I mean who doesn't love Michelle Obama, am I right.
Now I am not the fastest reader, so who knows when the next post in this series is going to be up, but what I will say is that I have found a new love for reading. Let me know what books you have been loving recently in the comments - KD
